Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) has accused the Muslim community: N M Ameen

BBS Press Conference 3/9/2013

I wish to bring to your attention that the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) has accused the Muslim community at the above press conference of various crimes, which are a whole lot of canard. The BBS has accused the Muslim Community of being the mastermind behind the huge haul of Heroin detected at the port of Colombo and that the funds derived from these are being used for Islamic extremism in Sri lanka. Today, the media has reported that the person who turned up to claim the container containing the narcotics is a Sinhala national. The investigating officers also know the real criminals involved in this. Please see Rivira URL for the report in the Rivira newspaper today.

These lies spread by your organization to incite hate and possible violence against the Muslim Community, which is against the teachings of the Lord Buddha. There may be individuals in any community who may indulge in
nefarious crime, but to point fingers at the whole community is deplorable. We have made it clear on numerous occasions that Alcohol, narcotics or any form of intoxicants are totally prohibited in Islam and Muslims cannot engage in any activity related to them. Any Muslim involved in these activities cannot be considered to be following the teachings of Islam. We have urged the enforcement authorities to take the strictest possible
recourse and punish with the full force of the law any persons involved in destroying the social fabric of society by indulging in trafficking, distributing or trading in any form of narcotics irrespective of their religious belief.

Alchohol, Narcotics and other forms of Drug Abuse, Gambling, Prostitution are vices which all our religions forbid. It is important that we should work together as Sri Lankans to eliminate this menace from our society. We would greatly appreciate it if you would kindly correct this misconception to the media without delay. I thank you for your kind co-operation and look forward to your immediate attention.
